Frequently Asked Questions

Do you only work with individuals with learning challenges?

No. The services that are provided are not limited to those with learning differences. Learning another language (e.g. Hebrew) or preparing for Bar/Bat Mitzvah can be unfamiliar territory for most learners. Our services support those individuals with and without learning challenges.

What are language-based learning disabilities?

Language-based learning disabilities (LBLD) refers to a spectrum of difficulties related to the understanding and the use of spoken and written language. These learning differences are neurological and affect skill areas such as listening, speaking, reasoning, reading, writing and computational abilities. Most individuals with LBLD need instruction that is specialized, explicit, structured, and multisensory. They require ongoing and guided practice aimed at remediating their specific areas of weakness.

Can my child be prepared for his/her Bar/Bat mitzvah even though they have a learning disability?

Absolutely. Given the nature of their disability, remediation and modification approaches are used to target their area of need.

Do I have to belong to a synagogue in order to have a Bar/Bat Mitzvah?

Not at all. We prepare for Bar/Bat Mitzvah services that can be conducted anywhere, including synagogues, Jewish centers, and your family homes or outdoor spaces.

Do I have to know Hebrew in order to have a Bar/Bat ceremony?

No. We teach you how to read Hebrew so that you or your child are adequately prepared for ceremonial reading.

How long does it take for someone to learn to read Hebrew or another language with a learning disability?

This depends on the frequency of the lessons. Typically two hours a week over the course of one to two years.

What kind of teaching settings do you provide?

We provide one-on-one or group settings in your home, through Facetime/Zoom, or in coworking spaces.
